Architecture is not just about buildings

Architecture is not just used to build buildings, it is used to build other things too. We all think that architecture means building high sky scrapers. But there are many different things in the world that we use in our day to day lives. Some examples are Street lights, Dams, Islands,

Dams

alternate text

Dams are related to architecture in a unique way. One way that Architecture is related to Dams is because architects build a type of Dam called an Arch-Gravity dam. An arch-gravity dam or arched dam is a dam with the characteristics of both an arch dam and a gravity dam. It is a dam that curves upstream in a narrowing curve that directs most of the water against the canyon rock walls, providing the force to compress the dam. They are made of conventional concrete, Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC), or masonry. A typical example of the conventional concrete dam is the Hoover Dam.

Landscape Architecture

Landscape architecture is the design of outdoor areas, landmarks, and structures to achieve environmental, social-behavioural, or aesthetic outcomes. It involves the systematic investigation of existing social, ecological, and soil conditions and processes in the landscape, and the design of interventions that will produce the desired outcome. The scope of the profession includes landscape design; site planning; stormwater management; erosion control; environmental restoration; parks and recreation planning; visual resource management; green infrastructure planning and provision; and private estate and residence landscape master planning and design; all at varying scales of design, planning and management.

Furniture

The forms of furniture evolved from visually heavy to visually light. This shift from decorative to minimalist principles of design can be attributed to the introduction of new technology, changes in philosophy, and the influences of the principles of architecture. The idea of accessible, mass-produced design that is affordable to anyone was not only applied to industrial mechanics, but also to the aesthetics of architecture and furniture. Islands

Islands are also another example of architecture. A lot of Science, Technonolgy, Engineering and Matematics goes into it. For instance, Science is involved when creating an island because scientists have to think a lot about how the water isn't going to submerge the island. Technonolgy is involved because software engineers use online programs and and different softwares to plan out the island. Engineering is the main objective because engineering is used for all of the above topics. Matematicas is involved because matemitcians use math to calculate all the different measurements of how wide, tall, depth, etc. the island should be. One example of an island that uses all these four concepts is the Palm Jumeriah in Dubai - United Arab Emirates .
